Live from New York City!
I'm currently on vacation with my son, and it's been absolutely fabulous!
My incredible wife couldn't join us, as the added stress of travel is challenging with her Alzheimer's. So, my three daughters rallied together to care for their mom, giving me this much-needed time of respite.
This break has been so incredibly good.
Moments like these truly remind me to cherish what we do have and find joy in the present. And that brings me to something important I wanted to share:
To all my engaged and married friends, please, take advantage of the opportunities you have right now to cherish your spouse.
Don't wait! It doesn't have to be a big, expensive trip. It could be a few hours together walking, a picnic without the kids, a bike ride, or flying across the country for a weekend getaway.
Someday, you may not have that opportunity, so embrace those moments of connection while you can.
No need for grand gestures or expensive trips; sometimes the most impactful moments are the simplest.
Here are three simple ideas I've put together to help you make time for these important moments.
- "Plan a Trip Together": Whether it's a weekend getaway across the country or a simple day trip to a nearby town, dreaming and planning together is half the fun. Big or small, expensive or low-cost – just plan it! The anticipation and shared excitement builds connection.
- "Unplug for an Hour": Just one hour, no phones, or social media, work, business, etc., just talking or doing a simple activity together. You'll be amazed at how much deeper your conversations can go when distractions are removed.
- "Get Out and Explore!" Tour your town, a new park, a different part of your city, or a local trail you've never visited. Discovering something new together creates shared memories and breaks routine, revitalizing your bond.
Know that often, it's the small things that make the difference, create lasting memories, and strengthen your bond.
Praying for you and your relationships to be filled with lots of joy and precious memories.
